Showing Up

A friend said to me “Show up at someone’s door unannounced and you’ll be able to tell if they’re really your friend.” I’m not sure he realized how profound and true a statement that really was. I say this not because I agree with it literally, because I do not, and sometimes you just don’t know what’s going on with a person at any given moment in time that may affect their response to you, but I do agree with it in a more metaphorical interpretation.
